Epilation by laser, more commonly known as laser hair removal, did not become commercially available until the 1970s. When it was first introduced to the cosmetic market, intense pulsed light epilators were used, although these were somewhat different from the lasers used today. Xenon flash lamps were also utilized, and these emitted full spectrum light, which was aimed at the targeted areas. These methods were not fully modernized until approximately twenty years later in the mid 1990s.
